This beautiful example of a mid-century home, was up until recently the residence of the original architect Harry Ernst who designed it in 1968. A strong collaboration with the new owners Andrew and Eliza, Bower Architecture and Interiors and Fiona Brockhhoff Design created a light and warm, faithfully restored and renovated courtyard home. The original inbuilt teak furniture was removed from site, repaired, modified, restored and reintegrated back into the new home. Due to the unavailability on Teak veneer, a suitable alternative was found in Queensland Red Cedar after an extensive search and sampling process.
This timber was then used in the new pieces of furniture and doors and assist in the modification of the existing furniture. Original light fittings were renovated, relamped and repurposed. Solid teak timber to match the existing door frames was sourced from ship builders in New South Wales. The golden circular skylights were spun from sheet metal in Melbourne. Great care was taken in the integration of new high performance large double glazed timber windows. Crisp Projects are immensely proud of this project and grateful to the owners for the opportunity to help in the restoration and saving of a Bayside Mid Century Modern.
